It say says "Photo Studio"... "Rouen 1917". I recognise the name as we have travelled through there many times on our travels through France.

I find it quite amazing how this information puts a spin on our research. So, the picture of the couple was taken in France or the portrait was done from a photo.
However, If he was doing duty in France, she would not have accompanied him.

As this is an over-sketched enlargement of the original it could have been done in France while the original was done earlier in SA.

It coincides with your earlier comment. Frank David Wilkinson son of David Wilkinson was in WW1 and married at this time.

I'm not sure why he was in Rouen in 1917 when the SAOEF were on the Ypres Salient at that time.

Hi there. My birth name is Glynnis Wilkinson, born in Cape Town South Africa and David Wilkinson, born 1838/1839 in Aberdeen Scotland was my great great grandfather. I happen to come across this thread in my research and was wondering how much further you got with regard to the family. We are also trying to establish if the David traveled with his family to South Africa or he went by himself as we have not yet found any travel records.
