If you get the marriage certificate come back on this post with the details and we will see if we can help.  Your friend or one of their family may have it somewhere

An online tree has an Ernest Graham b.5/2/1935 Edinburgh died 16/2/2005 Edinburgh which could account for the 1935 birth on SP which would just leave the 1933 birth entry as a possibility.

Thanks, it looks as though the 1933 one is the correct one then. Well spotted

As you say, you need something to confirm you have the correct info for him. His marriage with details on his father is certainly the place to start. His death cert should also include place of birth and birth date.

Luckily, the name Ernest Graham is not that common in Scotland!

Now that you have confirmed father's name, next step would be to order that 1933 birth that was discussed before. You now have some details to compare with Ernest's father's name.

You mentioned a brother with a name sounding like Malice. Could the name have been Magnus? There is a birth for someone with this name in 1930 in South Leith and a marriage in Haymarket in 1958.

Monica

Added: The father of this Magnus in a Robert Graham so not the right one.

Could Ernest and wife Violet have called a daughter after his mother (thinking of Scottish naming pattern). This might help in searches for marriages for a William Graham around that time.

Best bet is that 1933 birth for sure though  ;)
