Picture of coat of arms
« on: Saturday 12 October 19 16:38 BST (UK) »
Hallo

I am quite of a newbie in this filed, I just happened to find in family papers a picture of a coat of arms that I am pretty sure has nothing to do with my family (the only ones linked to my family name are completely different, and this one has a crown, that should indicate a noble family) and this tickled my curiosity. I would describe it as sea lion sword on red shield, with crown and helm with branches (I also used feathers), and I used these keywords to google images, but came up with nothing, any ideas? Thanks in advance

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

I am no expert and there are Rootschatters with far more expertise than I possess, but my first instinct is that this is not from the UK.

The armorial bearings which I have seen have the crown/coronet immediately above the shield with the hem above.

Could it be from one of the many European duchies?

Philip

Definitely a sea-lion ;D

A coronet of 16 pearls (9 only showing) would indicate a Viscount in English Heraldry.

Could be a Spanish Count, a French Comte, Germany & Austria (Holy Roman Empire) a Grafenkrone, Portugal a Count.
