Scotland People

I have just used up some credits to view an image of a death which was a “marine return” however on the list of ten on the page the person I was searching for was not there. What has happened here?

Do you mean when you entered the person`s detalis in the search boxes, it did not then show on the list of names ?

If it did, but when you clicked on . it wasn`t there, I would send SP an email.

I had something similar and they sent me the corrected image.

Yes exactly I couldn’t find him in any census or deaths in Aberdeenshire and I knew his brother was a sailor (the family are from Peterhead) so when I saw a marine return in the right year range I had a look but he was not on the page. I have now messaged SP.

Of course, wasn’t expecting reply, looking at the information on the return though it does not look like it will confirm anything.

I hope you`re lucky !

I have an illegitimate birth, which shows  clearly that is is a corrected birth entry, however, on my PC when I look for the line which takes you to it, it`s not there. I spent some time at the Hawick Heritage Hub in the summer and checked it; it comes up there !! The staff there couldn't`t say why this should be, just one of those little (irritating) anomalies.

A prompt reply from the good people at Scotland’s People with the missing image and so glad they did. The return came back with a death on 12/01/1890 along with several other crew of the Marlborough. Presuming the ship had sank on the off chance there was some info online I searched sinking of Marlborough 1890 and lo and behold a whole Wikipedia entry among other articles. The ship sank without trace on the return journey from New Zealand and it was a bit of a mystery as to what happened to. This person may not be my great great grandfathers brother but all signs are it is.

That`s good news ! I would be so pleased to get the information.

You`ve now got something definite to work with; you`ll be able to prove it one way or the other. I hope it`s the person you think it is, but what an awful thing to have happened.
