Yes, I see the image but can't find it on the map Forfarian provided.

I think it's actually Scor-na-druiden

I'm curious as to where the place is & it's English equivalent as I haven't been able to find anything close  :)

There is a Christy McNeil born 1885 Barra Ref. 108/16 on Scotland's people which Could be the correct one.
I had a problem trying to find her parent's marriage as his surname was McNiel on S.P but I did eventually find it & they were married 2 Feb 1874 at Barra

I have deleted what I posted earlier as it's no longer relevant...

"Sgor nan Druidean is an area in Castlebay and was once the name of my parents house, previously owned by coopers, at nearby herring stations"

As it was the name of a house it possibly won't be on a map but it would be good if it was.

From another "assuming that with him being a cooper in Portessie she would have met him while she was working there as a herring girl?"

That is an interesting theory on how they could have met as Buckie was a big fishing port.
But it still leaves the mystery of why they married in Perth especially as the witnesses were quite likely his niece Lily & her brother Donald. If it was thought they had run away to get married then would they have taken family with them.

I have edited my last post which may explain but at the same time, both parents were deceased & it does look as though her brother was a witness.

It now looks as though they may have met on Barra if George was working there?

My g/mother left South Uist for work & married in Pollockshields, Glasgow.

What you say about working in Barra is a possibility as his father was living on Stornoway as a Cooper, boarder in the 1901 census so they were not averse to working away from home.

I know that George was living in Portessie in 1911 with his father working as a cooper & he was also living there in 1912 when my father was born. So there is a possibility he could have worked on Barra between 1901 census & 1911 census.

Incidentally do you know where your g/mother's usual address was on her marriage cert.

My g/mother gave an address in Glasgow, she'd moved there permanently when she married.
She later moved to Motherwell & then Coatbridge before returning to S/Uist.

I wouldn't read too much into the address as it was how questions were perceived I suppose?

I think I'd be inclined to say the same if my 'usual' address was different from where I was at the time.
