Hi All,
I posted on here a few years ago and got some really useful information, I then got a bit stuck and did very little to my tree. The reason I got stuck was I had a couple of documents that seemed to contradict each other with regards to a forename of someone.
What I have is a marriage certificate and I have the grooms fathers name as John Baker (it is the grooms side I am looking to go further back on and I know this document to be for the person I am looking to go back further on)
I then got some information on here and purchased a birth certificate of the groom, the year of birth was good, the location was in London which I expected but this had the fathers name as Wallis Baker.
Is this normal as I am worried I have the wrong birth certificate?
It does get a little complicated as well as the groom who I am looking to go back on was born in 1858 and does show up on a census on 1861 but it looks like he was "fostered" from a very young age and was living with a different family so there is no guarantee that he was originally from London.
I suppose my questions are;
Did names differ often on different certificates?
Were children housed in different locations?
Is there anything else i can do? I thought by having the birth certificate and therefore mothers maiden name it would help but as I am not 100% I have purchased the right certificate I am at a loss.
Many thanks for reading this rambling post.
