Hannah and George Chapman
« on: Tuesday 15 October 19 17:14 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the baptism records for Hannah and George Chapman, children of John and Hester Chapman - Hester recorded as Ester at another child's baptism.

According to the 1861 census Hannah was born c 1834 at Kings Stanley.

According to the 1841 census George was born c 1834 but in the 1851 census c 1841 at Kings Stanley.

John and Hester were married 21 Feb 1819 at Kingswood and appear to have moved around somewhat judging by baptism records for their children:

John 22 Apr 1821 Kingswood
Mary Ann 10 Aug 1823 Kingswood
Louisa Frances 21 Aug 1825 Kings Stanley
Maria 11 Jun 1826 Minchinhampton
Alfred 29 Nov 1829 Kings Stanley
Emma 27 May 1832 Kings Stanley
Hannah bc 1834 Kings Stanley
John William 07 Aug 1836 Kings Stanley
Elizabeth 24 Mar 1837 Kings Stanley
Ellen 06 May 1838 Kings Stanley
George  bc 1841 Kings Stanley

Any help with Hannah and George would be appreciated.

John George Chapman Dec 1840 Stroud. Mmn King. A possibility?

Referred to as George to avoid confusion with father?

1851 census would have been before his 11th birthday.
1841. Was his age 7 months, not 7 years?

Thanks Emelton, hadn't thought of the possibility that George might be a second forename.

Brentor Boy, Hester's maiden name was Reynolds so not the John George you found, Hester was still alive in the 1861 census so she hadn't died and John re-married.  Thanks for looking though.

I was misled because the Ellen Chapman whose birth was registered  in Sroud Jun 1838 had mmn King.

I can find no birth Chapman, mmn Reynolds, Stroud to match the baptism Emeltom has found.

Had Hester been married previously?

The Hannah Reynolds who marries John Chapman was a spinster

John's wife was Hester.

I can find no birth record on GRO Index for Ellen (1838+/-2), or John/George Chapman (1840+/-2) with mmn Reynolds, or variation, anywhere.

Looking at the list of children in the first post, according to the Glos FHS CD of baptisms 1813-1837, the first two children on the list, John 1821 and Mary Ann 1823 , althought baptised with parents John and Hester, do not seem to be from the same family as the John in Kingswood was a clothworker, not a shoemaker as John was in all the other baptisms, and he and Hester went onto have several other children baptised in Kingswood, some of them in the same years as some of the other children on the list. Therefore I do not htink it is the same family.

Maria 1826, Hannah 1834 and Elizabeth 1837 do not appear on the CD.

Just found a baptism for Elizabeth. It was non conformist and took place at Avening Upper Forest Green (Independent)

"Was baptised Elizabeth, daughter of John and Esther Chapman who was the daughter of Benjamin Reynolds of Wotton under Edge. This child was born March 24 1837"
