Richard WOOLGAR
« on: Wednesday 16 October 19 15:53 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to locate the birth registration of the above, who was born to Edward WOOLGAR and Mary WOOLGAR (née WOOLVEN) sometime in 1840. He was baptised in Keymer, Sussex on 13 Dec 1840. The parents seem to have married in Keymer in 1836.

Just 7m.

Not near my records at the moment but I know he had siblings. Should be on 1841 census. The family is at Cuckfield.

Hi, family appear in 1851 as "WOOLLGAR" Ref HO107 1642 543 19. Births of all children appearing on 1851 census are on FREEBMD apart from Richard under surname WOOLGER.

The absence of Richard is frustrating. I have in recent weeks, however, come across two other possibilities:

1. MALE Woolgar - Q1 1841 Brighton 7 276

2. Thomas WOOLVEN - Q1 1841 Cuckfield 7 306

In way of explanation for 2, I believe Woolven or WOOLWEEN was his mother's maiden name. Also assuming I have got it right, the name on his death certificate in 1908 is Thomas Richard WOOLGAR.

I am not convinced by either of these, but don't have any more viable alternatives. So I might be forced to take a lucky dip and apply for one or both PDFs.

I believe that is the family in 1861.

By 1871 several of the children had departed, including Richard who married Jane SMITH in Hackney.
