I'm still poking around unsuccessfully for Edwin. But I can see his son Benjamin Gibson's marriage cert online; he married in 1900 (you probably have this already). Edwin is named as his father, and it doesn't say whether he was alive or dead. But one of the witnesses seems to be the bride's father; so the fact that Edwin, as the groom's father, wasn't the other wintess would lead me to think that, even if still alive, he almost certainly wasn't present.

Hi Annie.

Yes I had seen Benjamin REID & Lydia MEE marriage and that Edwin wasn't listed as a witness but his occupation [Coal Merchant] was & nor was he noted as deceased.  You are correct in that Lydia's father Chetwyn MEE was a witness as was Lydia's sister Ada. I am not aware of the last witness Tom Harry MASON nor his relationship to the family.

Perhaps the scenario was that Edwin, as a Coal Merchant travelled to the states to sell coal? ???

Perhaps he died in the States?

I appreciate your continued efforts on my behalf - thank you.
