Included in an item from "A History of Bishop Auckland"  note the spelling.

Hello, you may remember I put up a post about finding out the name of a pub that my Dad was born in, in 1932. It turns out it was the Criterion Hotel in Newgate.

Give me a few weeks then and  I will see when I can fit a trip in to the archives to do this look up - fitting around work and their opening hours.  I will see if I can find out more from the workhouse records if possible.

I see from a link Boo supplied Mary Beatrice was referred to as a patient rather than inmate.  If I am correct I believe this workhouse also became the General Hospital in Newcastle.  However, even as a patient rather than an inmate Mary Beatrice may still be in their admissions/discharges.

(My Great Grandfather's sister was brutally assaulted in the very early 1900s and appears in the Tynemouth workhouse records as she went in as a patient before being taken out by the police to testify in a court case.)

I will be back on this thread in a few weeks and hopefully, with some more information. :)

Good morning, I had no idea you did this in your free time! I'm not really sure how Rootschat works however I must say it has proved to be a godsend 😁. Although I am extremely grateful for what you are doing please don't put yourself out, but if you're happy doing it, please do 😁 Many thanks.

If someone needs a look up that it is in my power to do I am usually very happy to help out, especially if they live a good distance away like you.

I likely will do your look up I expect after a last nightshift somewhere.  I am the type of person who does not mind  'putting themselves out' for others - I am more than happy to do this when I feel this might make a difference.  I love family history as a hobby and really like helping others.  Plus I think your thread is very interesting and I would like to contribute in helping if I can.  I have found RootsChat to be a Godsend too - it is great that we all help each other where we can for free with our particular knowledge, skills or resources  :)(if we are able to - there is never any obligation to help). In my case my contributions on behalf of others on RootsChat are mostly look ups at Tyne and Wear Archives or my local libraries.

That is brilliant, thank you to all of you  :)
I have found the image of a document that might prove my granddad was on a ship, not Naval, but the only thing to go by is the ship number and dock. I have tried to attach it but it wont. any idea where I can look to identify the ship please?

Can you post the name, official number and the year your man served on board. It may be possible to direct you to a Crew Agreement, which in turn may reveal relevent information. ie last address, next of kin etc.
