So Robinson's Lane was still being referred to as late as the 1930's - but not appearing on a census after 1901 - how odd??

There is also a for sale notice in the Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 30 July 1931 for 68 High Street East and 8 Robinson Lane adjoining. So it does look as though 1 and 2 Robinson Lane were behind the buildings on the High Street, but there is no sign of your family.
You can see the houses on the 1955 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/440591/557307/13/101329

Its very strange, as they don't seem to have moved out of Sunderland, perhaps they were just omitted in error by the enumerator.

Thanks again for all your help!

1 & 2 Robinson Lane are not in the 1911 Census Summary Book, but are still occupied in 1939, coming between 67 and 69 High Street. So it very much looks as though they have been missed by the enumerator in 1911, as you say, perhaps he forgot there were two houses behind High Street.

Cheers Stan - I think you are right re enumerator, as the entire family are missing.

Thanks for all your help!

You will find Robinson's lane, Sunderland on this page.

https://www.newcastle.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2018-12/Sunderland%20reduced.pdf

Look for Fig 17 Rain 1785 - Sunderland and then look for High Street and you will find your lane right under the capital D of Sunderland, it is actually an alley. The entrance to it was an archway which you can see on the following page
