1861 Look up please - Knight
« on: Friday 19 August 05 07:55 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please locate me a George Knight born approx. 1833 in Bermondsey, he was a shoemaker by trade.  He was married to his first wife and had 2/3 children - George Knight b. 1855/4, Newington, Henry b 1860 Northampton and possibly Ann b. 1857, Newington (put on 1871 census as servant but I'm not so sure).  Now sometime between 1860/61 and 1866 first wife dies and he remarries.  Need information to verify that Ann is his daughter and name of first wife.
Many thanks

On second thoughts now I'm not so sure- Can't find a George born Bermondsey in 1833 ish together with any of those other names. So went by the Henry b 1860 Nton.

Trouble is, anyone living in Northampton is going to be a shoeworker !!!  ::)

I'll keep looking and get back to you .

Hi Carol
Many thanks for your efforts.  I too think this is the wrong George as there should be another child George born approx 1855.
thanks

BoBo

I presume this is the family in 1871? It may help someone to pinpoint them in 1861,cos I sure as eggs can't see them anywhere  >:(

Ann Knight abt 1857  Newington Daughter  St George the Martyr Southwark
Eleanor Knight abt 1869  St George the Martyr Daughter
Elizabeth Knight abt 1871  Bermondsey Daughter
George Knight abt 1833  Bermondsey Head
George Knight abt 1855  Newington Son
Henry Knight abt 1860  Northampton Son
John Knight abt 1865  Bermondsey Son
Sarah Knight abt 1851  Lambeth Wife
William Knight abt 1867  St George the Martyr Son

I've looked at the image and it does indeed say Northampton for Henry's pace of birth- but I wonder if that was in fact corrector did the enumerator mishear?

Okay someone else have a look PLEASE  ;D

Hi Carol
Many thanks again.  Yes this is the family and you've answered one of my questions in as much as Ann was a daughter.  I know that Henry was born in North ampton as someone already found me info re birth certificate.  The person that I really need a birth certificate for is Eleanor Knight.  Thought I found it but different Dad.
all the best
