That’s good news.

It is!  Now I just have to find the old brewery and try to find a photograph.  It was at 74 Old Elvet but even when I try to check out the postcode for that address - nothing turns up, so I must assume it has been demolished

Is this a different one in New Elvet?

Let's try to keep on topic here!  Can you walk on water?  Can you turn water into wine?  This is absolutely fantastic!

Fortunately I am not familiar enough with Durham to differentiate between pictures of Old and New Elvet that are more than 150 years old but all the references I have come across have stated OLD ELVET.  Nevertheless, I can point out the discrepancy in the text to show I am not trying to mislead anyone.

All I can say is Thank you, Merlin!

I couldn’t believe it myself.
I have no knowledge of Durham but it came up straight away!  :D

Under County Durham's copyright rules I can use the photo for personal use but I cannot reproduce it in any way.  So I won't be able to use this copy unless I can get special permission from the County Council and a copy without that horrible overlay.

Failing that, if I can find the family or the original photographer's family it might be possible to get a better copy and permission to use it.  The County Council may hold copyright on their copy but normal copyright has expired long since.  So I am very hopeful

this copyright thing is a minefield. I think I'd be tempted to ask Durham County Council for details of 'their' permission to publish the image :-)
But that's just me, I err on the the side of stroppy.

I have already contacted them, via my local county councillor, for permission to use it.  No doubt I will have to pay a fee!
