Family Tree Maker Problem
« on: Monday 21 October 19 20:12 BST (UK) »
A friend has the 2006 version working with Windows 10 and up until today all good.

She doesn't know how she has managed it but when opening up her grandfather, the timeline is all intact but not in any order.

Can anyone offer any advice on which buttons to push to get it back into some sort of order please?

Many thanks

Maybe it is time for an upgrade to the current version  :)

Yes but she is having palpitations at the thought of it Craclyn!

As she says, if these things are so damn clever why don't they realise they have made a mistake and sort themselves out.

I am not about to argue, so will live in hope that someone, somewhere may know what she is talking about.

To alleviate the palpitations you may have to explain to her gently at some stage that most software ceases to be «clever» eventually if you do not keep it up to date. Hope you manage to find an answer for her, but I expect she will eventually have to bite the bullett and jump forward a decade.

I think she is lucky for it to have survived this long, mine wouldn't work properly when Win10 was installed and I had to upgrade  :(

I wouldn't think so as I'm using same FTM 2006 on Windows 10 with no problem.

Eileen, if you mean the dates for events, she needs to tick the earliest date for each event as 'make preferred' & the rest will fall into dates in order automatically.

Click on 'Facts' then choose earliest date for whichever fact it is then click on make preferred...no need to click on any others unless a different fact...hope this is clear?

If you mean something else can you be more specific?

Carol it would be worth trying as many things have changed on W10 & I didn't have W10 when it was having it's teething problems but it installed no problem & all by myself!  ;D

Oh that would be great as I lost a lot of my work when I transported it to the new version and that should be still there on the old one.
