Thanks BumbleB

That is very interesting as the presence of an ostler and a visitor suggests it offered accommodation as well as the usual pub services

Thank you Jool,

I have searched for ages for information on the two pubs in Quebec and found nothing.  In the last couple of days I have found an awful lot on the Hamsteels Colliery Inn but nothing on the other one, which is the (not very) originally named Hamsteels New Inn - both of which were owned by Johnson's brewery in Durham

Thank you.  I am slowly talking to two elderly people who can actually remember this pub although it closed down a long time ago.  But I have found no references to it anywhere else.  The last year you mentioned is significant because that is the year that the owners took over the Westoe Brewery and stopped brewing their own ales in favour of Westoe brands

No, I gave up my subscription about six weeks ago because I was constantly being locked out and when it got to the point where I had to change my password every time I logged in, I just cancelled it.  I was going to ask a friend to look them up for me but I will not be seeing him until Sunday.  But I would appreciate you looking at them for me.
