Can anybody please give an opinion on the date of this old photograph.  I note that a few of the boys are wearing Eton collars so that might help!

Local people have given estimates varying from 1880 - 1910 so your guess is right on the edge of those dates

Early Edwardian would be my guess.

I have already seen this article and it was one of the people who were moved out of the villages who gave me the photo.  Unfortunately he was born in Lanchester after the events and he is unable to date it.  The pub in the picture has now been converted into tea rooms and the building is now much smarter than it is shown in either your picture or mine.  It is hard to believe that Quebec and Hamsteels were once much busier than they are today.  That's why I am so anxious to date this picture.

My only Ancestor born at Hamsteels Colliery.  John George Ord my Great Grandfather, born 3 January 1875.

Agree Edwardian there are a couple of boys wearing large lace collars which was an
Edwardian style.
Could be anytime during that decade.
