Ordering wills pre 1700
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 15:33 BST (UK) »
I've located some wills I didn't know existed but have no idea about how to order them (if they even still exist).  I found them on findmypast and they're in the Lincoln Consistory Court which appears to be now held be the county council yet the website only allows for wills between 1701-1750 and I'm after earlier ones than that.

Which is confusing as I've ordered from them before a will from 1776 but that no longer seems to be available.  Any suggestions gratefully received.

My advice would be to contact Lincolnshire Archives and ask the question  :)

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

There is a document copy form available on the Lincoln Archives website. Complete this with all of the details in the indexes, generally name, place, occupation or status, year and the reference for each will.

You need to sign and date this, you can then either scan or post it to them. They will then give you a cost.

The indexes to LCC wills are available online with the exception of 1660-1700 which is only available in a book. I do have a copy.

If you google 'Calendars of Lincoln Wills' and then search for books you should get the complete set less the years I mentioned above.

If are really stuck, send me a list of what you are after & I'll help you out.

Order form is here https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk//Download/112381

Card payment form is here https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk//Download/111474

I never complete the 3 digit code on this and ask them to call me when the order is ready for this vital piece of information.
