William and daughter Margaret Sutherland
« on: Wednesday 23 October 19 21:33 BST (UK) »
Hi was wondering if anyone could help...I seem to have drawn a blank!
Margaret married a James Corrie in 1877.
Her father William was deceased when she got married....on the marriage certificate it says he was a military man
Margaret was born in Pimlico London in 1853 and possible Christened in Inverness.
Margaret was my great grandmother
Thank you

The Margaret christened in Inverness parents were William Sutherland and Margaret McKenzie they were married in Inverness in 1850 and had 2 other children William in 1851 and Catherine in 1852 possibly one of these certificates will mention this William's occupation it may help to determine if this is the correct family

It looks like almost all of William and Margaret's children died.  William Peter in 1863, John George in 1861, Mary Jane born and died in 1866, Jane Isabel, born and died in 1869.  Robert born 1863 I am not sure about, and Sarah Ann Leo Thursby SUTHERLAND also survived and married in Newcastle in 1889.

On more than one census Margaret Sutherland states she was born in Pimlico, London.   Pimlico was/is in the City of Westminster so couldn't this be her birth entry?:

Margaret Sutherland - birth registered Dec.qtr.1852 Westminster - mmn Thomson (per GRO's own index).

Have you obtained this birth certificate?

Don't know if same couple are parents of above Margaret but a William Sutherland, Servant, son of George Sutherland, Merchant married a Margaret Thomson 12/1/1852 St. George Hanover Square, London (dau. of John Thomson, Inn Keeper).

It's always possible that William Sutherland joined army after his marriage.

I've just seen on an online tree that one of Margaret's children was named John Thomson Corrie which makes the birth I found a good possibility.

Thank you!!!!!
I think you might have sorted it out!
I got so confused last time I tried to get to the bottom of it....found so many possible lines ....but I think you  maybe have spotted some strong links.....will go back to it with a new vigour!!!!
My paternal grandmother Daisy Sutherland Corrie died before I was born so we never knew much about her.......thank you again deb
