Marriage of Jane McWhirter from Markethill
« on: Thursday 24 October 19 11:56 BST (UK) »
Jane McWhirter was born around 1816 in Markethill, Co Armagh. Her first child was born in 1834 but I can find no record of her marriage to James Gray. Can anyone throw some light on this? Thanks

Simply a reflection of how few records are online at this time/place.
Search church by church, of the correct religious affiliation
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Yes, sad that so many old records have been lost but thanks for the suggestion. Derek

I don't think that Pauline said that they were lost, just that they are not yet online, surely?

I'm sure there are still records to be brought online but many useful records in Ireland have been destroyed such as Census forms from the 1800's. The 1881 and 1891 returns were destroyed at the start of WW1 and another four sets were lost when the Public Record Office in Dublin was destroyed at the start of the Irish Civil War in 1922. Valuable information which can never be recalled.
