Tredegar/Bedelty burial of George Higgings
« on: Saturday 26 October 19 16:52 BST (UK) »
A distant relative George Higgins committed a murder and died at the scene of the crime near Tredegar in May 1889. I am trying to discover where he was buried. Although the inquest found him guilty he probably was buried locally. As he killed himself he is unlikely at that time to be buried in a church. Any help greatly appreciated.

Mark

He was about 32 years old. There is a lot of mystery concerning him. He came from Bradford Abbas  in Dorset and at times used alias names. He was a coker in Tredegar before killing his common law wife and killing himself at the scene of the crime.

Many thanks  Mark

There are good reports of the murder and inquest but no details of where he was buried. My personal guess is that it was at Bedwelty, slightly further from Tredegar due to the sensitivity for the victims family, but not to go to further expense of going farther away.

Thanks Mark

you could ask for a search of the cemeteries, details here

but the fee is rather eye-watering!

Many thanks and I agree the fee for simply confirming a place of burial when the name and month and year are known is enormous. I have written asking if the fee for such a simple request is accurate but have not as yet received a reply. Thank you again for your suggestion. Mark

The murder took place in a cottage and I will be making a new entry for a possible photograph.
