Kia ora

I have a conundrum I have this family with so many surnames I am not sure which is correct, but all the children are listed with the surname Roberts.  I have not sited Robart's birth or marriage yet.

Any help really appreciated.

are you looking at a transcription or the original registers which are available via FindmyPast? If it's a transcription, possibly the names have been transcribed as if they are patronymics. The register for Margaret's baptism has the surname as Douens, a variant spelling of Downs possibly. Likewise Mordechai, the son of Robert Douens & Margit his wife. The baptism 9 Dec 1677 is an earlier Mordechai, he was buried 2 Aug 1681, indexed on FindMyPast as Meredith Dovens

Many thanks.  I have seen them on My heritage. Their records come from the 'England births and christenings' I will check all of this out on Find my past when I am in the library in the next week.

Have you any idea why most of these (I see the exceptions that you have talked of on Find My Past) have the surname Roberts.  Is Roberts what you are suggesting could be the patronymic name?

Many thanks for the other things you found that I wasn''t aware of.
