I知 at a loss
« on: Sunday 27 October 19 21:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I was wondering if anyone can advise. I have my grandparents marriage details and death details but I am really struggling with my grandmothers birth. Without this I feel I can稚 start her branch of the tree. She has a popular surname and although all other family members are from Manchester the family reckon she was from down south? I don稚 even remember her birthday. Nobody on ancestry have her on their tree. I知 lost. Any advice?

Welcome to rootschat inertia (great name).  :)

A few thoughts/ideas:

Are there any other family who might remember her birthday?
Obviously if you have her marriage and she gives an age at marriage, you will have an idea which year she was born.
Can you give us some idea of time frames?
Do you know the names of her parents? You can try searching for all children with father痴 surname and mother痴 surname if you enter the details here:
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
If she is deceased and you would like some help, post all the details you know about her and we will try to help.
Without knowing some dates, it is difficult to advise where else to look.

And a welcome from me too  :D

Would you like to tell us your grandmother's birth name?  How old was she when she married your grandpa and when did she marry?

Her marriage certificate will give her father's name and occupation.

As Ruskie has said without any dates it is difficult to begin to help you.

Welcome

When did they marry? When did she die? Would she appear on the 1939 register under her married name. If she does then you would have her birthday.

Hi Ruskie. I have the following.....
Margaret King (grandmother) married Thomas Gregson (Grandfather born 1900) in April 1922 in Manchester. I only have the index (April, May, June)not the certificate. I cannot find them on the 1939 register, i have a suspicion they lived in Ardwick Manchester as they never lived any other area as far as anyone can remember. She died in July 1991. My brother seems to think she was only a year younger than Grandad so making birth year approx 1901? The only info we have is her family were from down south but not sure where she was born and why she ended up in manchester? Was she born in Manchester? Or this vague down south? :D Sad but true, that is all i have. Thanks.

Her death registration gives a birthdate of 18th March 1901.
However, that date would depend on whoever reported the death.

If you purchase that marriage certificate it will (hopefully) give her father痴 name and her age, so you can look for her with family in the 1911 census.

As her death is relatively recent, do you have a copy of her death certificate?

I can see the difficulty you have with searching for her via her name with nothing else to identify her. The 1911 census shoulld be of great help with that, and will tell you places of birth for your grandmother and her  siblings.

Shame she has just missed out on being recorded on the 1901 census (taken on the night of March 31).
