Is it possible that some kind soul could look up a record at the National Archives of Australia?

The record is for Robert Alexander ISHERWOOD:

Yes,  but to order from NAA you will need your plastic card,  I think the fee can be around $Au 75 ... and I think this file would include medical info relating to eligibility for a First World War pension ...

The strange thing is that I can't see anything for this guy re WW1, but various doco re his time in the Boer War.

The document has his Boer war service number so that should be what the pension record will relate to, not WW1.

Yes,  and the index shows that the particular file with that barcode covers the years 1945-1957, so could include info about him during his old age ....eg his then addresses,  doctors reports, pension adjustments and correspondence from and to Dept Veterans Affairs either from him, or from others on his behalf.

1957 ... pension file ends,  he died that year.

Qld bdm online ondex has listed his death as 5 August, 1957, and it was registered in Brisbane.

Trove has a 1925 cutting about Robert Isherwood, ex NZEF also known as Green. Perhaps him?   I am on my e reader, and dont know how to do live links from it.  Sorry.

This article gives much information about the doings of  a Robert ISHERWOOD and his friend Anthony Carvelli and includes a description as well as information about his past and his family.

The same article appears in the Brisbane and Perth editions of Truth.

Truth was a newspaper which delighted in publishing scandal and possibly wasn't too careful about checking facts, so I wouldn't take everything said here as gospel.  My mother wouldn't have it in the house!!

This chap has certainly had a rackety life!

I would not be surprised in the least if my Robert Isherwood and the Robert Isherwood in the newspapers were the same man!
His 2 sisters were “ladies of the night” in Auckland.
