Francis Benbow Much Wenlock 1559

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone else might be researching Francis Benbow from Walton who married Joan/Joane Habbe(u)rley in 1584 at Much Wenlock please?

There are many name variants - Benbow, Benboe, Bunbow, Benbowe, Bondbow and Bendbow!

They may have had the following baptised in Much Wenlock but it is not certain as the mother is not named:
Thomas 1586
Lancelot 1588
Michael 1589
Margaret 1596
William 1594
They also have a John and I can't find his baptism although he was buried 1695.

Now the following could be born to a different Francis and Joan/Joanne or the family moved. If it is the same couple Joan/Joanne would have been having babies when she was 48 (unless she married in her teens rather than 21). Not impossible but perhaps some of the later children listed below were illegitimate grandchildren:

If you are studying this family I wondered whether you had any luck tracing Francis' parents please?

The only baptism I have found is:
Much Wendlock - Francis daughter of William Bendbow of Walton 22 July 1559. This can't be the right Francis as this one was a girl.

I also have a similar problem with his descendant called Newell/Newellis/Nuell/Noull/Nuellae Benbow born c. 1645 Broseley and married John (Johannes) Millichop** (can't find marriage record) sometime around 1668. When trying to find her baptism the only one around the correct time is for Nnoul (hard to read) son of Robert and Newel/Nnuell. So again this can't be right as I am looking for a female.

It is really tricky and I would love to know what you think and am happy to share what I have if you are interested.

He joined the navy aged 25 years, seeing action against Algerian pirates before leaving and joining the merchant navy where he traded until the Glorious Revolution of 1688, whereupon he returned to the Royal Navy and was commissioned.

There's will of William Bendbow of More, Shropshire, in 1561. That's not far from Much Wedlock, about 10 miles.

It's PCC, so I can have a look and get back.
