Patrick McPhillips
« on: Tuesday 05 November 19 16:59 GMT (UK) »
I posted a number of years ago about my G Grandfather, Patrick McPhillips. I now find that the information I was given (paid for) was incorrect. When his son- my Grandfather married, on the marriage register it says his name was Patrick as well. His wife is down as Bridget McNerry ( McNeery) it has been altered and is difficult to read. I cannot find any information about them. It would be highly unlikely that they had only one child.A photo of the entry is attached. Any help gratefully received.

Patrick McPhillips was born 15 Mar 1857 in Rakeeragh, Co Monaghan. He lived in Belfast. Was in the RUC/RIC. He died 10 May 1933 in Belfast. When he married on the 4th Oct 1893 he was living in Trillick and his wife Margaret Maguire came from Moneygar. His parents at the time lived in Latnamard, Aghabog.
I have Patrick Jnr in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. I think Patrick and Bridget may have had a son and a daughter Francis and Anne but on Ancestry others who have the same, say her name was Comesky, which is why I am not sure if this is the correct person..
I have a death of a Patrick McPhillips for 31st Aug 1893 in Rakeeragh. In the 1901 census there is a Patrick and Bridget McPhillips living in Latnamard, with a Francis and Anne and a niece. Bridget is also in the 1911 census.

There are only 6 posts (all from today) showing under your username so I suspect that you were previously a member of Rootschat under a different account.

Best to work one step at a time to find family details. So, "When his son- my Grandfather married, on the marriage register it says his name was Patrick as well. His wife is down as Bridget McNerry ( McNeery) it has been altered and is difficult to read. I cannot find any information about them. It would be highly unlikely that they had only one child."
Civil records only list father's name and occupation- is this a church record of the marriage which shows Patrick's wife as Bridget?
There are lots of reasons a couple might have had only 1 child years ago- infant deaths, stillbirths, infertility, etc.

I have a death of a Patrick McPhillips for 31st Aug 1893 in Rakeeragh.
I can't locate this death on Irish Genealogy site but perhaps someone will have better luck.

I'm really having trouble following who is who in your two posts here  :-\

G Grandfather, Patrick McPhillips. I now find that the information I was given (paid for) was incorrect. When his son- my Grandfather married, on the marriage register it says his name was Patrick as well. His wife is down as Bridget McNerry ( McNeery) it has been altered and is difficult to read. I cannot find any information about them.
Great-grandfather Patrick McPhillips, grandfather also Patrick?
"His wife" whose wife- your grandfather's or great-grandfather's?

Patrick McPhillips was born 15 Mar 1857 in Rakeeragh, Co Monaghan. He lived in Belfast. Was in the RUC/RIC. He died 10 May 1933 in Belfast. When he married on the 4th Oct 1893 he was living in Trillick and his wife Margaret Maguire came from Moneygar. His parents at the time lived in Latnamard, Aghabog.
I've given a link to civil certificate but who were his parents? if this your grandfather? if so, is great-grandfather's wife supposed to be Bridget?

I have Patrick Jnr in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. I think Patrick and Bridget may have had a son and a daughter Francis and Anne but on Ancestry others who have the same, say her name was Comesky, which is why I am not sure if this is the correct person..
Ancestry, and online trees, are notoriously unreliable. With the probable dates there should be plenty of actual records to verify details.
How is Patrick Jnr. and where are they in 1901 and 1911?

I have a death of a Patrick McPhillips for 31st Aug 1893 in Rakeeragh. In the 1901 census there is a Patrick and Bridget McPhillips living in Latnamard, with a Francis and Anne and a niece. Bridget is also in the 1911 census.

Patrick McPhillips Jnr in the 1901 census is in Belfast, as he was in 1911 census. my father James McPhillips was born in 1910 and is shown on that census.
