Jones Meats Mumbles 1925. Grocery shop and Grandmother.
« on: Wednesday 06 November 19 02:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
This is a photograph of a photo. I don't hold the original ( that is back home in Wales with my mother-in-law and stuck to a sheet of paper ). Hubby took this photo with his phone and he has taken it at a  slight angle.

Is it possible that it could be tidied up as It's so dark and not clear, and if at all possible a colour version?

It was taken in the village of Mumbles Swansea in 1925 (the shop was probably on the main drag of shops - Newton Rd )
The lady pictured is my hubby's grandmother.

My Grandmother in-law would have been just 16 in the picture.
She was working in the shop pictured. It's probably how she met my grandfather-in law who grew up in Mumbles ( Grandmother was not a native born./raised there)

Her hair was dark , black ,and those are hams hanging up in the background in the shop.

I imagine the paintwork on the wood around the shop at the time would have been a dark green, or a blackish colour.
I've tried to google.the shop to see if there are any other old photos of the Jones meats and grocery shop but in colour ( for a colour guide), but I can't seem to find any of this shop with or even without colour.

I also don't know what the number of the shop  was , or on what street. ( I am guessing it was on Newton rd as thats where the majority of shops are and were). The building is very most likely still there and being used as another shop.

Thank you so much for any help.
I was thinking of framing an improved version and sending it to  mum-in law in her Christmas parcel to hang on her wall. It's such a lovely photo of an era gone by ( mum in-law  still lives in there in the village)

Kind regards

Lovely restore JF, and Pat, your colour versions are fabulous  :)

I love looking at old photos and I am always impressed with the Rootschat restorations.  Shops are one of my favourites, there is always so much to look at.  In this photo I was drawn to the Mackintosh's vending machine on the right.  Great photo!
