Do you think that his second name 'Shannon' might indicate that hes not from Kerry after all? Just a thought. Thanks anyway.
Might Shannon have been his mother's name? Or, another thought just occurred - could it have been originally not "Shannon" but "Seaneen", "Little Sean", a patronymic to distinguish him from others in his home area called Michael Fitzgerald.  However there's no Sean/John in the list of his children so it probably wasn't "Seaneen".

Thats good thinking Maiden Stone, I dont know if Shannon is a common surname in Ireland. But its made me want to try to think 'outside the box'. Thank you.

I dont know if Shannon is a common surname in Ireland.
A few entries for Shannon surname in County Limerick in Tithe Applotments Books, compiled 1820s & 1830s. Loads for Fitzgerald in Kerry and Limerick.
