There is an interesting connection though as his adopted mother was a Grundy and his adopted father is Batty although he definitely was adopted.
When did adoptive parents marry? do you know when the adoption took place?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

There are two Batty/Grundy marriages in the 1930s in Nottingham.  Were either of these the adoptive parents?

Ah I see the parents married in 1928 hence most likely the reason for a re-issue of Mary's birth certificate.

Marriages Sep 1928
Goode    Henry A    Parkin    Nottingham    7b   887
Parkin    Leah    Goode    Nottingham    7b   887

Just to put the pieces together for Mary:
1922 - Birth Sep qtr Nottingham vol 7b p728a PARKIN Mary, no mmn (FreeBMD note - entry crossed out)
1922 - Birth Sep qtr Nottingham vol 7b p728 GOODE Mary P, mmn PARKIN (presumably the 1928 revision)
1928 - Marriage Sep qtr Nottingham vol 7b p887 GOODE Henry A, PARKIN Leah

Philip

Yes that is correct. I also saw that there was a correction of Mary Parkin from a Mary Allsop to Parkin. I am not sure if this is the same Mary though but seems a conincidence, could this be an adoption?
