There are two Batty/Grundy marriages in the 1930s in Nottingham.  Were either of these the adoptive parents?

Yes, Cyril to Kathleen

Welcome to Rootschat Nicole

Can you clarify what it is that you wish to do?

Mary appears to be an only child of Henry and Leah.

Doris certainly doesn't appear to be a sister of Mary.  Perhaps her father was one of Henry's  brothers?

Just a guess but Mary's 1928 birth registration may have been something to do with the education system.

I cannot see any marriage of a Mary Goode to a Grundy unless it was abroad.

Is your FIL still alive? If so you need to remove his name.  Born in 1948 not 1949.
Sorry I have removed this information.

I am new to this board so not fully aware of how to post & reply yet.

My FIL is looking mainly for his birth mother but any information would be useful right now. Also some clarity as there seems to be many questions. Thank you for your help.

Could . Mary Goode s birth certificate have bee. Re issued because she was also adopted or because  her mother got married to Mr -Goode .

Have you found a baptism for Mary ..?

No, I haven't thought to look for this. Thank you

Ah I see the parents married in 1928 hence most likely the reason for a re-issue of Mary's birth certificate.

Marriages Sep 1928
Goode    Henry A    Parkin    Nottingham    7b   887
Parkin    Leah    Goode    Nottingham    7b   887

I suspect Henry may well be a good deal older than Leah.  Found a likely Henry in the 1911 census at Forest Tavern 257 Mansfield Road Nottingham, occupation publican and married.  Born 1868.  No wife listed.

Yes, that is correct.

Oddly my FIL who was brought up in Nottingham says he used to go to that very pub.

What I am not clear about is whether your FIL's mother married.  Is this what you are trying to find out?

There is a closed record with Henry and Leah on the 1939.  This usually implies that this person is living.  Is this Mary or someone else?

I've just noticed that Mary has the second initial of P on her birth record.  Do you know what it stands for?

Have you got a birth certificate for her?

No, it means that they were born less than 100 years ago.

Probably 'PARKIN'?

Nicole, can you explain how you have made the connection between Mary GRUNDY and Mary PARKIN/GOODE born 1922?

On my FIL birth cert his mother is named at Mary Grundy & her mother Parkin. No father listed.
He was born in 1949, Worksop

Where on the cert do you see Mary's mother named as PARKIN?
