Ferguson - Glenaray
« on: Saturday 09 November 19 09:09 GMT (UK) »
Looking for help in tracing the family of David Campbell Ferguson (my Grandad) who recorded Glenaray as his usual residence on his marriage cert in 1923.  His parents were recorded as Duncan and Catherine Ferguson and a witness at the wedding was Donald Ferguson, Kilfinan.
I've found a couple of potential families for him but nothing concrete.  The earliest record I can find for David is at Kilmartin in 1891 (I Think) but who his parents/family are remains a mystery.
Would love to hear from other Inveraray Fergusons who have clues!
Thanks,
Jan

Have you checked the records on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

I guess this is the marriage you refer to below.

FERGUSON   DAVID CAMPBELL   MCINNES   MARY ANN   1923   Kilmore and Kilbride

You mention a record in 1891. I guess that was the census return below at Kilmartin, you would need to see the original for relationships. All named FERGUSON
CATHERINE 68, JOHN 40, CHRISTINA 18, CATHERINE 3 and DAVID 7, born about 1884, therefore 39 at his marriage.

In 1901 there is only one record for David age 16-18 but no other Ferguson’s at that abode.

FERGUSON   DAVID   1901   16   Lochgilphead   Argyll

No birth on SP for a David Campbell Ferguson in Scotland after 1855 and no David born 1880 – 1900 but by strange coincidence the birth of a David FERGUSON was Registered in Lochgilphead 1902

What was his mother's maiden name from his marriage or death certs? This will help you to search for a marriage for them.

Thanks all!
Yes, I've been at this for a long time - You're right!  Over the years small pieces of the puzzle have been found but nothing that decisively identifies my Grandad's family.
Will keep trying though!

I wonder?

DUNCAN FERGUSON   Married    CATHERINE CAMPBELL   1905   Laggan

Laggan is a village in Badenoch, in the Highland region of Scotland. It is beside the River Spey, about 10 km west of Newtonmore.
