Middle Lambrook in East Lambrook land tax lists
« on: Saturday 09 November 19 17:55 GMT (UK) »
In the 1781 and 1782 (1783 missing) land tax lists for East Lambrook is The Revd Mr Phares (proprietor), with Thos Willy as occupier. The tax rate is 0.4.0. In 1784 the property showing the 0.4.0 rate is Trustees of Lambrook Meeting (proprietor) with Thos Willy as occupier. Lambrook Meeting is the non-conformist Presbyterian Middle Lambrook Meeting, as to which the baptism registers for almost all of the 1700's are missing or lost.

In the 1766 and 1767 East Lambrook tax lists, there is a minister named Joseph Osler (sic, Ostler?). Joseph Ostler "of Lambrook" in 1772 signed a petition to parliament seeking to relieve dissenting ministers from a certain requirement of the Toleration Act. [Land tax lists from 1768-1780 were either not prepared or are lost.]

Does anybody have more information on either or both of Rev. Phares or Joseph Ostler? [They are not mentioned in the 1991 "Short History of Middle Lambrook Meeting."]
Willy, Willey, Gifford, England, Fry, Pittard (all in Kingsbury Episcopi Parish, Somerset); Forster (Warkworth, Northumberland; and Isle of Thanet, Kent); & Cartwright & Hancock (Birkenhead, Cheshire)
