The 1841 census for Alston, Cumberland has John & Eleanor Armstrong living in a place called FLATT.
Where and what was FLATT please?

That's a fair distance from Alston!

I think it's more likely to be this farm, which is a little south of Alston, which is on the current O.S. Map as Meadow Flatt.

I see from the 1841 Enumerators schedule for District 8 that FLATT must lie somewhere in
"That part of the Chapelry of Garrigill in the parish of Alston commencing at Nattrass?? Gill and from thence southward including all on the east of Tayne River to Garrigill Burn"
 FLATT and the area around seem to house mostly Lead miners and their families.

You can see Nattrass Gill just a little north of Flat on the side by side map I posted.
