BRICK WALL HOWIE
« on: Sunday 17 November 19 10:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi , any advice welcome. Been tracing my Howie branch and gone back to James Howie b 1805 . Birth place Scotland only mentioned  ? But later married and lived in Lanarkshire . Various places old Monkland Hamilton .then moved to Co Durham England and died there. He was a miner  Traced his family .
Well I'm well and truly stuck . Don't know what to do next. Love to get back further . My mum knew that side well and my DNA came up with 30% Scottish  which will have come from them.
Any ideas please ?

Many thanks

You obviously have a lot more information than you have told us. We need to know what you have already found so that we don't duplicate what has already been done.

- whom did he marry?
- what were the names and dates of birth of his children?
- which censuses have you found him in?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi , yes been down a few avenues with this .
He married  Janet Russell . There is a proclamation of banns for 1827 , although it does start that on that occasion she wanted to stop things. Scotlandspeople maintain he would have married but not all records were made. This is further confirmed by his sons death certificate stating Janet was his mother.
His children recorded on the 1841 census at old Monkland Faskine

Thomas Howie 1826 appears to have emigrated to Canada

Ann Howie 1826 ?

Martha Howie 1831 born Motherwell and married died England

John Howie 1834 died Cadder

Mary Howie 1835 ?

James Howie 1836 born Motherwell died England (my line )

Robert Howie 1838 died England

I note the 1841 census at Old Monkland = HOWIE, all born Lanark

James 35   Therefore born 1802-1806 - Coal Miner – Janet also 35

Sadly no birth record for James in Lanarkshire but plenty elsewhere.

I cannot find any records for their children, parents James and Janet Russell, have you found any?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.
