Annie, 1911 census shows parents and younger siblings at 190 Butterbiggins Rd Govanhill, no Robert.  Father Duncan died 1919 same address, daughter Grace present, I was hoping it would be Robert since he is eldest child.

It will probably help us to undestand better if you explain how you got to your GG Robert Bennett b. 1880. Who did he marry (or maybe didn't marry)? Which child of his was your grandparent and where was the grandparent born and when?

Have you verified in any document that your Robert was indeed the one you are looking at (with parents as you mention)? As you say, there are a few Robert Bennett's born in the Glasgow area at that time.

You mention that you are certain he was born in the Hutchesontown area. Why do you think that?

Confused by this.

You said that your Robert was illegitimate and born in 1880, with parents Jane Graham and Duncan Bennett.

There is a marriage showing for a couple with these names in Hutchesontown in 1879  :-\

This entry looks to be the Bennetts in 1881:

Jane Graham 52 head b. Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire
Jane Bennet 27 daughter b. St Boswells, Roxburghshire
Duncan Bennet 28 son in law Engine Fitters Laborer b. Wigtown, Wigtonshire
Robert Bennet 6 Months grandchild b. Glasgow
John Graham C Fyfe 2 grandchild b. Paisley, Renfrewshire

Address: 62 Naburn St, Glasgow Hutchesontown

My GGrandmother was Lilias Neil Moyies b. 27 Dec 1878 to James Moyies and Lillias Cowan, m.s.  Neil (a widow).  My GGrandmother gave birth to my grandfather James Moyies 27 May 1901, Rutherglen, no father was named, my GGF also named James Moyies was present.  The RCE was signed 6 Sep 1901 and entered 9 Sep 1901 adding Robert Bennett as father.  There is some handwriting next to the signature that appears to be 14/04/02 and GS?? illegible.  My GGrandmother never married Robert Bennett and my grandfather never used his biological fathers surname.  After his birth my GGrandmother went to family in Rhode Island taking my grandfather.  She subsequently married for the first time in 1908 Pawtucket, William Cowin, had a second child Edith, William died in 1909 and she returned to Scotland with the children.  I did not know this until I started building my family tree, an Aunt who was alive at the time said...you found the family secret!  She did not seem to know anything about Robert Bennett.  The source of all this info is SP although my Aunt provided the Rhode Island lead and I was able to get records from the State Archives.  I am not sure any of this will help me find Robert Bennett, but I am thinking I need to hire a researcher in Scotland to help me put this to rest.

Just saw your posts, yes I am looking for a Robert Bennett, the son of Duncan and Jane, and the apparent biological father of my grandfather James Moyies.  I hope this makes sense.

Yes, it certainly does. Thank you for the additional details.

I misunderstood some bits which is why I was confused in parts. So it was Robert Bennett, mason, born 1880, who was named as co parent in the action by your ggrandmother Lilias Neil Moyies.

Can you add this section here as a clip so people can try to help with what shows?
