John (Jack) Kendell - Footballer
« on: Tuesday 19 November 19 19:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am hoping that someone is able to help me please. I am writing a piece about Jack Kendell, who was a goalkeeper for Lincoln City, Everton, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Peterborough United.

As part of my piece i would like to know the players date of death. I know he died in 1961, but would like to know his exact date please?

A John Kendall died in the Scunthorpe Reg Dist in Dec qtr 1961, with age given as 57 (from FreeBMD).

Consistent with that is an entry in the 1962 probate index for a John Kendall of Hibaldstow who died in hospital in Scunthorpe on 9 Oct 1961, with probate being granted to his widow Ivy Harriett. I'd advise you to check this for yourself at https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills - the entry also gives a full address.

Note that neither of these entries has the middle name William that's given in Wikipedia, but the name of his wife or the address might help you to work out if that's the right one.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I have seen date 9 October written somewhere (as well as 14 November). But with 9 October being his birth date I wondered if death date was correct. Its not impossible but not likely either

Was he born in 1904 or 1905 - see 1939 register and he is 6 in 1911.   He married Ivy Harriet Adlard in 1930.  She died 1993

There is a John William Kendall birth in Dec qtr 1905 Lincs but neither the 1911/his marriage/1939/ or death entries show a middle name

If he was born 1904 and died on his birthday in 1961 then age 57 is correct.  Same scenario but b 1905 he would have been 56
