Lookup - Southampton Newspaper
« on: Friday 22 November 19 03:27 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone who can help to find a death notice from the Southern Echo newspaper, Southampton?

The notice refers to the death of Janet Cochran BOWER who died in Southampton in 1986. Her death is registered in October 1986 Vol. 20 Page 1212.

She is the widow of Alexander BOWER who died on November 20, 1966. According to Alexander's death notice, at that time the couple were living at 17 Auckland Road, Millbrook.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Regards,
Ed

British newspaper archives does not appear to have the Southern Echo for 1986.

From the Daily Echo website

• Family Announcements (September 2010 onward)

• Announcement Archive (March 2002 to September 2010)

Help and information is available - To contact the Family Announcements team, call (023) 8042 4999, fax (023) 8042 4770 or email family.announcements@dailyecho.co.uk.

As her death was announced in the October quarter if the newspaper is not digitised it would mean someone having to look through a lot of pages from mid-August to the end of the year.

Hi chempat.

Many thanks for your messages. Looks like there is no easy way. I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to search through five months of newspapers. I thought that someone may have access to funeral or burial records so that the search period could be narrowed down to a couple of days.

Regards,
Ed
