Emmett
« on: Friday 22 November 19 16:59 GMT (UK) »
I am happy with my research on Richard Emmett, b3 May 1647 Harberton, Devon; died 15 March 1690; married 17 May 1673 Harberton.
I am looking for father.
Not happy with Nicholas Emmett married Agnes Hoare 31 Mar 1643 Plymouth St Andrew,
I have had no success with usual sources Ancestry etc. Can anyone suggest my next step?
Emmett seems variously spelt Emmett, Emitt, Emmet, Emmitt
Emmett, Nelson, Webber, Rossiter, Lambourn, Gilbey, Chumbley, Osborne

The entry has him as the son of Nicholas, baptised on 30th May. It's a very poor image but I can read enough to see that. Sadly, unlike other entries, the mother's name is not mentioned.

(I was drawn to this posting, having lived in the South West for 20 years, and Emmets and Grockles were quite familiar names for tourists!

There is a marriage at Ashprington 8 April 1621 for Nicholas Emott and Margarett Short.

Ashprington is not far from Harberton.

Added - the entry says that Margaret is a widow.

Hi Gadget
Thank you for that information. 3 May birth is close enough to 30 May baptism.
Whether Agnes Hoare is mother is another matter although Family Search suggested it was.
Of course, the marriage date is now open to question as well.  Your second message offers another alternative.
Lovely area to live in.  I haven't visited for years before I located my families home area.
Bye
