Whifflet Street, Whifflet, Coatbridge
« on: Saturday 23 November 19 11:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.  I have a couple of questions concerning ancestors who lived at 149 Whifflet Street which was located in a block consisting of 145-149 Whifflet Street.  I see from an OS map 1944 - 1967 which I found on the National Library of Scotland’s website, that the property was located near the junction of School Street and Calder Street.  However, when comparing it with a map of today, I see that the property no longer exists.  From what I can see on the Roots Chat forum, I am guessing that it may have been demolished in the 1960s/1970s.  If anyone has any more information about when and why it was demolished that would be great.  Also, I believe A B Brown had a bakery at 145 Whifflet Street. Does anyone know the dates the bakery was based in this premises? Many thanks!

Welcome to RootsChat

It looks as though the block was demolished for the widening of Whifflet Street, the A725.
See the 1969 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/273628/663828/13/100951 Change the zoom as necessary

Thanks for the super quick reply!  That is really helpful and I can see from the maps that this may have well been the case.
