Looking for Annie Howe please
« on: Sunday 24 November 19 15:26 GMT (UK) »
I have only found Annie Howe (born 1868) West Ham/Bromley  mentioned on the 1881 Census living with her step-Father William Sawle and Mother Ann (Howe)
Annie was charged with Manslaughter in 1890 and served 5 years Penal Servitude.   Is there anywhere where I could find out where she served her sentence and where she ended up on her release.
Any information would be most helpful please.

William Sawle married Ann Howe in 1869 (Mile End RD)
In 1871 the family are all listed as Sawle
RG10 / 570 f154 p53

1881 she is still listed as Sawle
RG11 /494 f32 p5

Was she prosecuted in the name of Howe or Sawle  :-\

Many thanks for the swift reply
She was listed as Howe and her Case was heard at The Old Bailey in 1890 and
she served 5 years so would not have appeared on the 1891 Census
Many thanks

Many thanks for all the information.  I was lucky enough to find the Old Bailey
details of the trial.  But could not find where they had sent her
I have been searching for this lady on and off for about 20 years and it was only
luck that my sister put in the name Ann Sawle that we found out that Annie was
illegitimate.  No wonder I would not find her birth.
Thank you, once again for all your help as I would never found out any more

The Old Bailey website has lots of links that you can click onto for their records though they are easy to miss.  ;D
