Gibbon family in late 1700s/early 1800s in Armagh
« on: Sunday 24 November 19 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I'm trying to trace some family roots, and thought I'd cast the net out to see where I can get.

We have traced my mum's lineage back to a guy born in 1785 called Richard Gibbon, my Grandad before he died found some records suggesting Richard Gibbon lived on a farm in Armagh, in a town called Annaclare (which is off the Portadown Rd).

I am trying to see if I can go back further but all I have hit is dead ends.

Has anyone had any success in Armagh this far back or come across any Gibbon family in their heritage this far back?

Cheers

Just to clarify your post-

Annaclare is a townland (not a town) outside Armagh- the boundaries show on the map here-
https://www.townlands.ie/armagh/oneilland-west/grange-oneilland-west-portion/annaclare/
The A3 which goes through it does go from Armagh to Portadown but we only got road names in rural areas in 1970s or so in Northern Ireland (some places much later and others possibly a bit earlier).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
