Seeking parents of Catherine Garratt who married Thomas Foulks 1803
« on: Thursday 28 November 19 21:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone help me with the parents of Catherine Garratt census records show she was born in Shotton abt 1783 she married Thomas Foulks in 1803
This would get me back another generation which would be great. Thomas came from a family of mariners and I wonder if the Garratt family did the same.
Hope someone can help

Well done Kay.  I was going to ask where you'd looked already.

FindMyPast often has Welsh records that you won't find on Ancestry.

There  is also a possible marriage for the parents

5 Aug 1781  Hawarden William Garratt to Ann Huntington    William is listed as a batchlor and labourer  and both were of the parish  but I think the one below is better

There is also this possible earlier marriage of a Wm Garrett to an Ann Leatham in 1770 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KCRD-DFK    as later baptisms in Hawarden with parents names of William Garrett and Ann list the mothers maiden name as Leatham and Williams occupation as a fisherman  (eg Rebbecca Garratt 30 Dec 1792 and Stephen Garratt 16 Jan 1795)

In case it is the same person F M P has the burial of a William Garratt age 90 and a fisherman in Hawarden in 27 April 1843 and his wife Ann age 86 listed the widow of William a fisherman address Mancott 22 Dec 1845

There is also a burial at Hawarden of a William Garratt age 88 also a fisherman on 16 Sep 1833  and his address is listed as Shotton so looks more likely  :-\

Hi
Just looking at the replies I think the Ann Leatham looks right but could it be Latham ? I have other Latham people years later.
My connection with this family is through Mary Foulks born 1806 who married Stephen Hewitt. The Hewitt family all seem to be working as flatmen which I think would be on the river Dee?

I have not been looking at this tree for a while and was so pleased to be moving back. My mum is 94 and still very alert.it is great to be able to say another new name for our list she is still so interested.her father was born in Mancot but they moved to England when he was 7 he remained a very proud to be welsh. So a lot of this is for Dot who even though good for her age is not too well at the moment having bed rest at the care home she lives in.
Thank again

Welsh wills has a William Garrett of Mancot died 1813, it's at Hawarden records office, unfortunately Hawarden hasn't had their wills copied which is a shame.

Hi
I wonder if this William (1813 ) is the father of William married to Ann I think I have found William and Ann on the 1841 census so the later death would seem right.
All information passed to my mum who I am glad to say is feeling a bit better though looking frail. Not bad for 94 though
