Hello everyone, my first post, I hope I am following protocol.
I am trying to find information on my Great Grandfather. I have some information but have not been able to find birth or death records for him. I have only recently discovered that he was my biological great grandfather and that my great grandmother remarried after the birth of my grandfather. Here is all the information I have been able to find and if anyone can help me to find birth and death records and possibly census records I would be very grateful:
Thomas Francis Baker:
Marriage to Mary Hannah Tapley (Age 23) 21st April 1899 at Primitive Methodist Chapel, Audlem. Mary's father was Ralph Tapley, Plate Layer on Railway.
Thomas Francis Baker (Age 31), Confectioner. Address 2 Vicarage Lane Audlem. Father also named Thomas Francis Baker, Vetinary Surgeon, Deceased.
Thay had a son (my grandfather), who we always knew as John Edwin (Ted), but I believe his registered name at birth was Francis Edwin Baker, born 20th May 1900 at Union Workhouse Nantwich. Mary Hannah Baker, formerly Tapley of Audlem is his mother and Thomas Francis Baker the father. On this birth certificate Thomas Francis profession is Baker (Journeyman).
FamilySearch has John Edwin Baker's Christening 11th March 1901 Audlem, both parent's names as expected.
For the 1901 Census, Mary Hannah Baker is listed as "Cook" at Ellesmere College, Shropshire. She is listed as married. I haven't been able to find out where Thomas was at this time. Their son is listed at Mary's parent's home in Wrenbury (his surname is listed as his mother's maiden name, Tapley, but I think this may be due to their own children being listed with that name).
I know that Mary Hannah had started a new family by 1904 but my research shows that she did not remarry until 1913 at which time she is listed as a widow.
If the age for Thomas Francis on his marriage certificate is correct he was 31 in April 1899 so year of birth would be 1867/1868 I think. I have considered the Boer Wars were between 1899 and 1902 but don't know if this might account for his disappearance, him being a baker/confectioner it doesn't seem likely but not impossible. I don't have any subscriptions for searching so if anyone would be willing and able to help me get a bit further I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks for any assistance,
Carole
