George Sockett b Wellington c1839
« on: Sunday 01 December 19 23:07 GMT (UK) »
In 1851 George is listed in the home of his grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth (who are transcribed as Sackett), HO107/1997/421.
This is the only positive information I can find. I cant find a birth record or any record of him in later census returns. There is a possible death in 1910.
One of Thomas' sons William or George is probably his father. There is death for a William in 1841, otherwise I can't find anything on these two either.
Am I missing anything?

Any help at all would be gratefully appreciated.

I think this might be George and family in 1841 in Portway Rd, Wednesbury (none born in county):

Thos Sockett             48
Elizabeth Sockett     48
Willm Sockett           27
Jane Sockett             20
Mary Sockett           14
Rebecca Sockett       8
George Sockett        3
William Hickman    21
Joseph Griffiths      14
Samuel Griffiths     12

H0107/ 984/33 pg 30

(I'm thinking this is the family, apart from the names and ages, as John HARVEY in the 1851 with the family is born in Wednesbury.)

Though is George the son of Jane?  :-\

Although there is this baptism in Tipton:

21 May 1837  George son of Thomas (moulder) and Mary SOCKETT of Bridge Row.

Not the right George as he appears with his parents in the 1851 at Tipton.

Maddy,

That's them in 1841.
I've also thought that George might have been an illegitimate son of Jane.

Thanks

Maddy,

I don't think the Tipton family is right.

Does George (21) marry Caroline STRINGER (20) at Oakengates, Shropshire 30 May 1858 - notes father William SOCKETT.

This George and Caroline can be found in subsequent censuses in Gateshead, Durham where he is noted as born Shropshire.

Maddy,

You might have found him  :D :D
There is a death for a William in 1840. That would account for him being with his grandparents in '51.

Many Thanks

Maddy,

Oakengates is quite near Wellington so looks even more promising.
