HOLYLAND BMDs, Berkshire
« on: Monday 02 December 19 22:03 GMT (UK) »
Principally I'm looking for the parents of William Holyland who, according to the 1851 census, was born around 1783 in Reading. (He was living in Leicestershire by then).

I can't see much in the way of Holylands in Berkshire at all. I've got the birth of Frederick Cole Holyland in Reading in 1824, parents Francis and Sarah (and Francis was apparently living in Reading at the time); and a marraige between Charles John Holyland and Harriet Child in Old Windsor in 1828 (but I think Charles was from London and the family seemed to have gone back to London before emigrating).

Does anyone have any resources which they could check for any other Holyland sitings in the late 1700s/early 1800s please? There are lots of possible misspellings -the commonest are Holiland, and Hollyland.

Many thanks :)

Not much help I'm afraid, but there is a mention of "Holyland, the chief police constable" at Reading in Sept 1823
The Times. (Sept. 30, 1823)

Thanks, maddys52. That will have been Francis, he appears in the Old Bailey transcripts at times and it said there that he lived in Reading.

The only addition, which you may already know of, is that Francis was a Victualler.

11-Aug-1824 Reading St.Laurence;
Frederick Cole, s/o Francis HOLYLAND, of Market Place; Victualler; and
Sarah

This is the only "Holyland" family I could see. Not much help.

Alan
added; There is a marriage of John Holyland to a Sarah Wells 4-1-1768 in Speen St.Mary. might be worth keeping for future ref.
