Lamb's of Wressle, Howden, Yorkshire.
« on: Tuesday 03 December 19 16:34 GMT (UK) »

Parkin Leggott Wells, Born 1817 in Haxey, Lincolnshire, married Harriet LAMB from Wressle, Howden, Yorkshire.

Harriet Lamb appears to have been illegitimate. Her mother was Mary Lamb, - I can't find a Father. I'm also not having much luck finding Mary Lamb's Parents...

Any help welcomed.

Cheers, Romilly.

Does her marriage confirm she was illegitimate.  Who were the witnesses

ADDED Where were they in 1851

Hi Rosie,

I can't find this Marriage. I can see Parkin and Harriet Wells on the 1841 Census.

I'm going on info given to me from a DNA Match to me on the My Heritage Site.

She's in the USA. Parkin and Harriet Wells emigrated to Iowa in the 1840's.

I think that I must match in via the Lamb's, - but I'm having difficulty finding them!

Romilly.

Thanks Rosie, - I was looking mainly in Lincolnshire, but of course, - the Bride's location was more traditional.

Found the marriage .. no father mentioned for Harriet - her abode was Wressell - witnesses W. Sherboun ?  and Ann Vickerfs.

If she was born in Wressell then baptism in 1819 does only name mother Mary.  We have to consider that marriages only give abode at the time and not necessarily where people are born but it does look like a good match.

There is a baptism for a Mary Lamb in Wressell 26 Oct 1784 parents Ralph & Ann. A Mary Lamb was buried in Wressell 25 Feb 1842 age 63

Many thanks Rosie and BumbleB, - much appreciated.

Yes, it looks as though Harriet was illegitimate. I wonder if my DNA Match is via her missing Father? (That would be par for the course...!)
