Oxfordshire Marriage Bonds......
Simon Bateman/Mary Bourn of Tring, Hertz, 1742 Brize Norton.

1742. Simon Freeman, of Rotherfield Peppard to Mary Lardner, of Shiplake.

From Oxfordshire, England, Church of England Baptism, Marriages, and Burials, 1538-1812. (Ancestry)

Original says Simon Freeman. Married, Thame, Oxfordshire. 29 Sept 1742.  to Mary Bourn of Tring.

This couple went onto have children in Wing, Buckinghamshire, using Bateman as a surname.

Was it a hard of hearing Cleric who made an error, or did Simon lie. Or was he born Freeman.   OR, was it Simon Bateman 'a Freeman'.  Discrepancy between original and Bishops Transcripts. ??

Any thoughts please. ;D
