DNA awful muddle
« on: Thursday 05 December 19 18:19 GMT (UK) »
Having recently received my Ancestry DNA results am unable to unravel it.
Its quite crazy, how on earth can a couple born 1878 and 1880 with deaths 1940 and the male in 1943 respectively, have produced a child early 1940s. Am supposing the man had a relationship with a female of childbearing age, shortly before his death. Perhaps am barking completely up the wrong tree.
Help please.

DNA results don't provide date details so what makes you think this is the scenario that your results have implied?

Thrulines isn't exactly to do with DNA. Thrulines compares trees and suggests how you may be related to other DNA matches. If the other person has named certain individuals, or that Ancestry believes are the same individuals, Thrulines will show the information they've given, even if it is complete rubbish.

Right thanks for this ,knew it could not be correct.New to this DNA stuff, trying to find out my true origins due to very early memories as small child during wartime which I have never been able to confirm. Also Irish family gave info years ago,re my origins.Have no adoption that am aware of,hence resorting to DNA which does not seem to be getting me anywhere.

Brionne, make sure you fully understand what you are getting from your DNA results. Don't jump to conclusions. Ethnicity results are in their early stages.

You would have to give examples but sounds like maybe a couple have adopted their grandchild and  other trees show this child as their child so your relationship will be a generation out ....does that fit with your scenario ? Are you showing up as first cousin to someone  whose tree might not be correct ?
My grandma age 11 was "adopted daughter " of  70 year old couple...I'm sure other censuses don't accurately record relationships
Don't panic ..I'm sure there will be an explanation

A few more thoughts

What are your highest cm matches?

If you need help triangulating matches feel free to send a private message .

Do you mean you know your parents and grandparents .
And are unaware of any adoptions ?
Could the person with close DNA have cross generation adoption in her family ...hence the skew...
Have you put yourself as home person on your tree ?

Thanks to all for your help.
Brigidmac have sent you a PM.
Largest DNA match is 198cm across 8 segments.
No answer to my message to see this tree.
Am a guest with a large tree on Ancestry. No subscription.
Hiccup is grandparents shown as parents.
Still on a learning curve on this.
