Dating and restoration please found in my grandmother's album
« on: Friday 06 December 19 12:09 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate it if anyone could give me an idea of the period this photograph could have been taken.  It was found in my grandmother's album and was possibly taken in Ireland. Unfortunately there are no details of the studio or photographer. Any assistance in making the photograph a bit clearer would also be appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello, what a lovely photo! Children are hard to date so could we see the outer corners please and also the back if there is any printing on it.

Cheers,

It looks lovely. Thank you so much.  I did not crop the photograph at all. There is absolutely nothing on the back of it either.  It is printed on that grey type of paper that photographers use. I was hoping that the 'posy/hairbrush type thing''and what looks vaguely like a cup might ring a bell with someone.

It is hard to put a date on it as she appears to be in character, the items attached to her dress suggest a Nursery Rhyme or book: an ornate silver backed hairbrush, mirror, a rattle of the cylindrical type maybe. not sure was is at the front of her dress, syringe or hatpin? She seems to have her feet positioned for dance in what look like character shoes.
I would judge her to be in her early teens.
Possibly 1915/20

You are all so incredibly talented.  Thank you so much.

Carol, you remarks were really helpful. I had not thought about a nursery rhyme character at all. I suspect it might be my grandmother, and your dates would fit with her being in her early teens. Will now see if I can find when it was fashionable to photograph children as characters from books or rhymes.

I wish you all a great Festive Season.
