Hi, I have confirmed and consistent information about the start and the end of the life of my ancestor John Andrew Dale, born 1915. I have nothing to put in the 59 years in between. It's a bit mysterious. Maybe, pure speculation, he enlisted just before the 1939 Register was compiled and became a serving soldier in barracks somewhere which explains his absence. Maybe, pure speculation, he emigrated at the end of the war and had his life elsewhere, returning to the UK to die. Any positive IDs or suggestions about how to search for him overseas would be appreciated. (I am aware that the forum does not report on the 1939 Register). This is what I've got. BIRTH - born out of wedlock to Lilian Mary Dale, General Servant, at 9 Orchard Hill, Carshalton, Epsom, Surrey on 10/05/1915. Registered 03/06/1915. Father's details blank. Baptised at All Saints' Curch Carshalton, Surrey 20/06/1915. Father Henry Garner - serving Soldier (giving name as Henry Garner Dale to fit in with birth registration details) and mother Lilian Mary Dale. Henry Garner, I assume, as a serving soldier could not get permission to marry until the end of the war. PARENTS' MARRIAGE - Henry aged 30, Widower, and Lilian 28, Spinster, on 21/02/1920 at Croydon Register Office. DEATH - John Andrew Dale registered September Quarter 1974, Greenwich registration district, DoB given as 10 MY 1915. Henry and Lilian went on to have more children but they were much younger than John Andrew and didn't know much about him. Any advice gratefully received.
