Cowin and possibly Baker families from Lonan
« on: Tuesday 10 December 19 15:16 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a John Cowin born on the IOM in about 1850, possibly in Lonan.
He is said to have married a Sarah May Baker. He had a daughter May Cowin in about 1883 and a younger son who later emigrated to Canada. May later moved to London where she married my son's great grandfather in about 1921. May's parents are said to have died when she was quite young, and she is said to have been brought up by an aunt.
Any information which might correspond to these people would be very welcome!

I do believe there have been other topics about this family.

If you have a search for "Cowin" topics by other posters should come up for you to have a read through in case they help  :)

John Cowin isn't an easy name to search for - there are quite a lot of them!

Looking at Lonan baptisms, 1845 to 1855 finds:

9 March 1845, John son of John & Elizabeth (Callow)
7 May 1848, John son of William & Anne (Garrett)
6 November 1853, John James - no parents named
3 November 1851, John Thomas - no parents named
(All taken from www.iMuseum.im)

Not finding a birth/baptism for a May Cowin in either Isle of Man or England/Wales?
Not finding a marriage either?

I gave the registered births on the manx genealogy on the 10th http://www.isle-of-man.com/genealogy/messageboard/index.pl
the 1861 census is College St Ramsey (now all demolished) - John snr born Rushen + wife Jane born Maughold - Mary is actually May - the 'y' is somewhat badly written
any thing with a Manx Connection
